Christmas Card

Well here I am finally getting around to last year's PD Christmas Card, in August. I've had the idea in my head since December, but I am only now getting around to drawing it. I also figured this blog needs something new or you'll all up and leave me for more frequently posted blogs. Hope you like it, I haven't decided if it's a he or she yet. I'm pretty satisfied with how it's coming along. There's a lot I am not happy with, but I can live with it because I am 9 months overdue on this project. Having trouble with the right leg.. I think the nose will end up lengthened and more pointed. The mouth moved slightly down, but I'm not 100% on that decision. I am hoping that once I have the doll down, the outfits will be much easier to create. Not sure how it will end up being colored, but once I have it inked it should be a lot easier to figure out. On the right I have a quickly scrapped try at a sideways pose, but I prefer to draw them forward facing because I think I have more options that way. Outfits will end up being for every major (and maybe some minor) holidays that have passed since December (New Years, Valentines, St Patricks, etc.). So that's the plan. I will post full set after I have mailed them out to the people on the card list and they have received them, after all they have been waiting longer.

Apologies for the quality of this pic, I took it with my cell phone. My computer has gone down and I luckily have E's to use still, though he is not thrilled. My scanner hasn't been hooked up.

RR

One post a month and then WHAMMO! Two in one day. I drew the two outfits for the Round Robin I mentioned way back. My daughter also drew a dress.

My dress shape is inspired by a dress in Marilyn Henry's Marilyn Monroe set, I chose the colors for it based on the doll's shoes (Didn't feel like drawing any). The other outfit is pretty much they type of thing I wear while I draw, pretty simple that. Surprisingly I completely forgot all about tabs until it was too late. I drew some on the copies I sent out.

My Dress-a-Doll from this year's party.

This was my entry this year. I was not prepared like I was last year and so it's not nearly as good. Our theme was "Musical Moments in Paper Dolls". All I could think of was "The Wizard of OZ," so that's what I chose. I didn't have any images to base it on, so I was forced to draw it from memory. I completely forgot about her blue socks. I also forgot to bring a pencil sharpener which is why the bodice and sleeves are drawn much better than the skirt. I got frustrated, lost some of my focus and started settling. Also I've never been really good with plaids, so I almost never attempt them.

I'm not thrilled with this, because I gave up once I realized I couldn't sharpen my pencils. However I owe you a post and I fixed my printer/scanner/copier.

I'm finally catching up with the housework which means I'll feel less guilt when I draw instead of clean. So hopefully that means I'll be more active here. Also my son is turning 5 this summer so he'll be off to Kindergarten in the fall. This means way more uninterrupted art time for me.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the doll featured belongs to Magazine Cover Girls Paper Doll Book, Merrill, 1944 and her name is Patricia. I've included an image of the set's cover in case you were interested in seeing it.

Scanner Down

So I ended up having to re-install my printer-scanner-copier and now it is doing none of those things. I can't figure out why it's not working and until I do, I can't scan anything in for you.

Hopefully I can figure it out and get it fixed soon.

Absent

I've been behind everywhere these last few months.. (I have about 1000 un-looked at emails from the various PD groups I belong to and those are just the ones with images) Sadly even here. This better updated blogging year is not off to the start I'd hoped for. Things have just been crazy hectic. However.... I am making some progress. FINALLY got my robin mailed out. Now I just have to put finishing touches on my Christmas card (like I said, crazy behind) and do something for Jean's party in March. Then my projects are my own. Thank you for sticking around. I will be back on track soon and will do my best to make up for lost time.

Google PD Group

I think most of my followers already belong to this group, but I highly recommend it. It's full of warm and friendly people who love to share paper dolls. You can visit the group online or have posts sent to your inbox, which is really convenient if you don't want to miss out on anything. However... Some days you can get a lot of sends, so I'd recommend setting up a free email account just for paper dolls. You don't have to, but for me it helps keep my main inbox just for regular stuff. If you feel like joining, please do, I'd love to see you in group.

Sorry no new art yet. I've had some unexpected personal stuff come up these past few months. We're all healthy, but haven't had much time to draw. I promise to have something up in the next week. I think I may have to designate a day for posting, because left on my own it seems I don't get around to it much. Love you all, thanks for reading & understanding.

round robin

Trying to come up with an idea for a Round Robin I'm in.... So far I think they're above my skill level.
